A 6 position on the fly TUNER is fine. A chip is some little chitty thing you plug in and pretend you gained 500 HP. Sorry you can't yet use the awesomeness of EFI but that's not a reason for this massive butthurt. Spartan is supposed to make some good TUNERS for you Ferd guys. Or buy a Honda "It SOUNDS Fast" and chip to your hearts content

Edit: When I say "Fine" I mean on the right track. Get a TUNER with shitty tuning and be prepared for hard shifts, shitty smokey fueling and ultimately, repairs. This is why EFI is so great, truly CUSTOM tuning. Get a truck than can utilize EFI and start from there.

Spartan is good for the new fords but for the 7.3 you cant beat the 6 pos chip with custom tunes if you have the right tuner. I think EFI is great i am getting ready to try it on my d max just waiting for some one who wants my ppe box.

Maybe a Chevy guy and a Ford guy call em two different things, but IMO a CHIP is a cheap ass chip you plug in, my have a dial to switch but is basic, non-customizable and usually used by the import guys though I've seen them in magazines for diesels, Cheap. A TUNER, is either Canned (non-customizable though it still may be switchable, usually on the fly) or Customizable (EFI is ONE example,) usually switchable and USUALLY a better quality of tuning. It's just that to me a Chip is something a ricer buys, even if that ricer happened to buy a truck.

"Programmer" edge evolution, super chip. They are the $250 POS flash programmers that plug into the OBDII port that every retard thinking he's a bad@$$ will buy for his truck. They "say" adds 150 HP, it's a load of crap they do nothing but trick the PCM/ ECM (whatever the crap you want to call it) itll add more like 50 hp. Chip and tuner are the same thing in my book. I can tell you to not waste your time and go straight for custom tuning but you won't learn doing that. Get a TS performance 6 position chip and a set of gauges. If you run the TS with generic tuning you will be fine, my dad has generic tunes on his E99 that hauls 4k lbs of boxes and tools on a flatbed and we can put a rice burner to shame. If you want to go with custom tuning call ANYONE! Going with a DPTuner restricts you to Jody's tunes alone. Going with TS opens the door for everyone else's tunes, Tyrant, Tony Wildman, PHP, DI, Beans, Swamps, Gearheads and a handful of others, if you aren't happy with one, switch. Either way you will love custom tuning. As for saving the transmission I would recommend a Bully Dog shift inhancer, it's $75. Also have the trans tuned if you get custom tuning and if not I've heard ATS's co-pilot works wonders, that will help, it won't save you from having to buy a built trans but it will prolong the $5000 trans. 4" turbo back exhaust and an intake will wake it up.

Forgot about those ones! If you buy Brian's valve body and decide later on to buy a BTS trans, he'll deduct the price of the Valve body, probably not a lot but its better then buying one twice.
