I wish I had a cool burn out, or street racing story to go with it.....

But it started up and idled amazingly! It was pounding snow that night as we pulled it out of the shop. We went down a couple side streets around the shop to get on a straight stretch. It was a little squirrely with 6 inches of snow on the roads, we reached down to click it into 4 wheel drive and when we let of the throttle the truck down shifted from 4th to 3rd and rattle rattle clunk clunk engine died..... that was it.

That is sad to see a motor torn up like that. It looks like there are some obvious weak spots based on your pics. Rods and pistons are both a weak design. What else is weak in it? Could you post some pics of the cam? Does it have different height lobs for all the valves? What are you going to do to your new one? 3500 for a long block sounds pretty good, but not if they will not last. Maybe there was a defect and your new one will be better. Looking forward to see your build pics!

The cam was weird, Every other lobe is staggered just like a normal cam. But each lifter drives two push rods.

I will get you pictures of the cam when we get it back. We shipped it up to Colt Cams in Canada to have an aftermarket one made.

After seeing the internals we are going to balance the rotating assembly internally like we would do on a duramax. I foresee a snapped crank in the future if we try balancing the rotating assembly the same way we do a Cummins engine.

I am still curious also. I found lots of cut away pics of this engine when I did a Google image search, but very few of the actual components in real life.
