ATS tranny or Suncoast for 6.7L Dodge Cummins

Register to stop seeing this ad!

Givin the advice of fellow members, I am going to pump up my tranny before doing any huge mods to my 2010 6.7L. I keep hearing about ats and suncoast are the two front runners, but which is a better all around tranny?

We have run both on our 2010 Cummins here at the shop. As far as reliability goes they are about the same from what we have seen.

It really comes down to price and warranty as far as my personal opinion goes. I have been really happy with ATS over the past couple of months. Those guys have made leaps and bounds in their customer service and warranty departments. They have always made good products but over the past five years their customer service was a little shody and gave them a bad name in the market. Now that they have turned that around I couldn't be happier with them.

Sun Coast has had the same customer service issues, they used to be really good, when the ol man passed away things went downhill fast in the customer service department. But they have recently started bringing it back around.

Whichever company you decide to go with, rest assured you are getting an excellent, well engineered product and both companies will stand behind it if it fails.

I've always heard and seen great transmissions from Goerends Transmission. He has proven for years that he can put a great trans behind a Cummins.

I just put down 547 with my ATS. Rock solid and got a lot of compliments from guys who said ATS is junk. Made them rethink their views on ATS. Can't beat the price and warranty. If you can go for a couple weeks with out your truck yank your old one and send it in. If not just order it and send yours back for the core charge.

We're running Suncoast full billet in our trucks with no issues with trannies or costomer service. And since Bobby is hard on input shafts, now that we upgraded it to the mega shaft no problem out of the 900+ hp truck.

I'm not talking smack about ATS i'm just gonna say facts from being a customer of thiers. I ordered thier biggest trany for my 05 full billit shafts, kevlar clutches, five star torque converter the works. They preached about this trany being capable of well more than 1000hp, on it's best day my 05 was 600hp maybe 650hp. Within the first week i snapped the output shaft turns out it wasn't billit even though i had payed for it. It took two weeks to get my tranny back and this is with me living an hour away so I personaly dropped it off and picked it up. When i got the tranny back it shifted awesome I was extremely impressed two weeks later shattered the input shaft and it took six weeks to get it back this time and it never performed worth a shit after that, the shift and lock up points were screwed and to make this story shorter they got the trany back four more times for smoked clutches and torque converters and each time took a minimum of a month to get it back to me. Also along the way I met a few people that had worked for ATS and found out about alot of cut corners they do. If I did it again I would go with suncoast in a heartbeat. ATS keeps a good rep bc of all there advertising but they have a horrible rep with the locals of colorado that deal with them in person and know what happens behind the garage door.

I had to double check to see which forum I was in because I kept getting confused from all the people voicing opinions based off different transmissions then a 68rfe. Just because one company can build a bad ass 48re doesnt mean they can build a bad ass 68rfe. Just because some company built you a pos 48re doesnt mean they will build a pos 68rfe. My vote goes to ATS for numerous reasons. 1. Customer service is awesome, now a few years ago this was a different story. 2. There warranty is alot better. 3.There price is better. 4. They have the copilot, and that is the main thing putting on top right now. But the best option for a 68rfe, is swapping it out with a 48/47re. Even all the suncoast and ats employees are running 47/48re's and not a 68rfe.

What would it take to run an 47/48re in place of a 68rfe?

That seems way high, but I guess if your getting the very best trans a company makes and paying someone to do all the work it could be that high, but if you get a good built trans that will suit your power needs and do most the work yourself you can do it for alot cheaper like 8-10k
